Treatments: UAE: Sedation: Choosing

Choosing Between Conscious Sedation and Spinal Analgesia
Overall I find the following differences between conscious sedation and spinal anesthesia:

  • About one third of patients who have spinals get some degree of itchiness, which is easily treated with an antihistamine such as Benadryl™.
  • Patients who have conscious sedation are groggier after the procedure.
  • Patients who have spinals use less pain medication after the UAE, and report lower pain levels during the recovery period, than patients who have had conscious sedation.

All of the nurses who take care of my patients tell them to choose the spinal.
